Driving and resting times - from 20 august 2020
Uninterrupted driving time
Maximum 4,5 hours.
Interruption of the driving time
At least 45 minutes uninterrupted.

splitting up the interruption. Minimal 15 minutes followed by an interruption of at least 30 minutes (obligated in that particular order).

Daily driving time
Maximum 9 hours in between 2 daily resting periods or a daily resting period and a weekly resting period.
Twice a week a prolongation up to 10 hours is possible.
Exceptional deviation of up to 1 extra hour possible (subject to compensation by the equivalent of the extension).
Exceptional deviation of up to 2 extra hours possible: only after the continuous interruption of 30 minutes (subjet to compensation by the equivalent of the extension).
For both: if it is necessary to reach the employer’s place of business or place of residence to take the weekly rest. The driver must note the reason of this deviation on the printout of the tachograph or prestation sheet.
Normal daily resting time
At least 11 hours consecutive rest per period of 24 hours.
OR
Splitting up the rest in 2 periods is possible: at least 3 hours of uninterrupted rest, followed by 9 hours of uninterrupted rest (obligated in that order).

Reduced daily resting time
Minimum 9 hours consecutive.
Maximum 3 x in between 2 weekly resting times (no more compensation left).
Weekly driving time
Not more than 56 hours.
Exceptional deviation of up to 1 extra hour possible (subject to compensation by the equivalent of the extension).
Exceptional deviation of up to 2 extra hours possible: only after the continuous interruption of 30 minutes (subject to compensation by the equivalent of the extension).
For both: if it is necessary to reach the employer’s place of business or place of residence to take the weekly rest.
The driver must note the reason for this deviation on the printout of the tachograph or prestation sheet.
Two-weekly driving time
The added total driving time of two consecutive weeks can never be more than 90 hours.
Regular weekly resting period
At least 45 hours which can’t start later than before the end of six periods of 24 hours until the end of the latest weekly resting time. The weekly rest period can NOT be taken in a vehicle.
Any costs for staying outside the vehicle will be covered by the employer.
Reduced weekly resting period
Minimum 24 hours – provided that the weekly rest period of 45 hours that has not been taken in full is compensated – en bloc before the end of the third week.
Resting period in a period of two consecutive weeks
2 normal weekly resting times (at least 45 hours)
OR
1 normal weekly resting time and 1 shortened weekly resting time of at least 24 hours (provided that compensation is taken)
OR
in the case of international transport where the driver is outside the Member State of the establishment or his own Member State: 2 consecutive reduced rest periods (24 hours) in a period of 4 consecutive weekly rest periods of which at least two are normal weekly rest periods (45 hours) (subject to compensation for the 45 hours of weekly rest not taken in full).
Return of the driver
Within each period of four consecutive weeks, the driver must return to the
operating branch of the employer where the driver is stationed or to his place of residence so that he can take at least 1 normal weekly rest period of 45 hours or more when taking the compensation for the weekly rest not taken in full (reduced weekly rest period).
